Helping smaller organizations solve problems and reach goals
Maryellen earned her bachelors degree in art history at UCLA, where she later also obtained certification as a paralegal and in law firm administration. She worked as a paralegal and administrator in Los Angeles before moving to the San Luis Obispo area where she worked as a paralegal in the district attorney’s office and, for sixteen years, as a paralegal and firm administrator at Andre, Morris and Buttery. Since retiring, Maryellen has been a consultant with both for- and non-profit entities particularly in the areas of executive searches, human resources and team building. Her non-profit clients include: Foundation for the Performing Arts Center, Irvine Adult Day Health Services, and San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre. She completed the Leadership Institute at the Center for Nonprofit Leadership. Maryellen has been on the boards of Central Coast Natural History Association and the Foundation for San Luis Obispo Public Libraries. She served several years as President of PCPA Foundation and more recently, joined the board of directors of the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center. She served as interim Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony and, more recently, interim Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
Michael earned a bachelor’s degree at UC Santa Barbara and master’s and doctorate degrees at UCLA. He has been an elementary schoolteacher, principal, director of large-scale educational technology projects, community college instructor and Cal Poly lecturer. In the non-profit world, he served as Chief Operating Officer and interim CEO of Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network. Now a consultant, his current and former clients include the Association of California School Administrators, Silicon Valley Education Foundation, the Federal Communications Commission, Net Texts, SRI International, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Michael’s local non-profit clients have included SLO Village, Canzona, Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers, and Piedras Blancas Light Station Association. At Spokes for Nonprofits he teaches workshops and facilitates the Board Presidents & Board Chair Roundtable. Michael is immediate past-president of San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre and current president of the Cabrillo Estates Property Owners Association. In August 2020 he took on the role of Interim CEO at Spokes, San Luis Obispo County’s nonprofit support center.
